The Citizens Advice movement arose as an emergency response to the Second World War. Salford Citizens Advice Bureaux dates back to this period. The current unitary service was created in stages, being completed in 1996. Over the last three years much of the work to make a unitary service a reality has been completed.
Salford Citizens Advice has five high street services. The newest of which Salford City Bx, was opened in April 2002. We have extensive contracts to provide Community Legal Services with the Legal Services Commission, holding contracts in debt, housing, welfare rights, and employment. This service operates from our Swinton office and provides a specialist casework service for all our Bureaux.
The Community Outreach Team provides a range of outreach services throughout the City. The team is based across the city and has as the main focuses of its work, the provision of advice services in health practices and peoples homes. The team operates a dedicated service to Salford and Manchester’s large orthodox Jewish community, a dedicated over 60s benefit take-up project and a community debt team.
To ensure the best management of the largest Citizens Advice Bureaux in the north west we have divided the service into three branches; The High Street Service – which consists of our traditional bureaux service, our telephone and internet services; LSC contract Casework Service; and our Community Outreach Services.
